Basmati rice health benefits

Basmati rice is widely used in India to make a whole host of dishes such as biryani, pulao, and even desserts. But along with its amazing taste, basmati rice has a number of health benefits too. Here are 8 reasons to include this popular rice variety in your diet!

Good for diabetics

Basmati rice is rich in folic acid, which helps the body metabolize protein better and also aids in the breakdown of carbohydrates. This ensures that the carbohydrate content of the body does not accumulate and cause obesity. It’s also packed with complex carbs that will keep you feeling fuller for longer and help you lose weight.

Prevents heart disease

Basmati rice contains fiber, which prevents cholesterol absorption. Fibre also binds with cholesterol and carries it out of the body before it can be absorbed into the bloodstream. The more fiber your body gets, the lower your risk of heart disease.

Helps prevent cancer

The fiber present in basmati rice prevents cell mutation, which decreases the chances of developing cancer. Folic acid and magnesium are also known to protect against colon cancer. In addition, brown basmati rice contains selenium — a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals and may help to reduce the risk.
