The different types of wire mesh fencing

The wire fence is made of different materials. Each one can be used for different purposes.

Aluminum fencing can be lightweight and resists moisture and rain. Aluminum fencing is also a good conductor for electricity. This is why aluminum fences are sometimes used to make electric fencing.

Steel wire is durable and heavy. It is one of the best fencing investments. Although it is more expensive than other types, stainless wire is naturally less prone to corrosion. You can even use it in saltwater applications. Stainless steel does not require galvanization and will last longer than products which have been galvanized prior to welding or weaving. This fencing is strong and resistant to rust.

Wire Fence Coating

You can use many materials to wire fencing. There are many ways to apply each material. For example, the wire used to surround a landfill doesn’t have to be as attractive or as safe as that used to enclose a backyard or playground.

GBW – Galvanized before you weld or weave

Galvanized wire refers to wire that has had a protective coating applied, such as zinc. The coating protects the wire from rust and corrosion. A wire that has been galvanized prior to being welded or woven with other wire strands is known as GBW. Welded wire is galvanized before it is woven. This causes some of the galvanization to burn away. This can lead to small areas of moisture or water damage that could last for years.

GAW – galvanized after weave or weld

Galvanized wire after weaving or welding is more durable than galvanized wires before weaving or welding. Although it may be more expensive initially, galvanized wire after weld or weaving will not require as many repairs over time than GBW. GAW has been welded or weaved before being coated with zinc. This ensures that no zinc is left exposed and that no zinc spots are removed. GAW Wire is very durable for outdoor applications that will be exposed to extreme weather conditions.

Vinyl-coated Welded or Woven

Vinyl-coated wire fencing is available in either black or green. A vinyl coating has been applied to a wire fence after welding or weaving. Vinyl-coated fencing looks nice and lasts for a long time because it is coated with both vinyl and galvanized paint. This fencing is used to keep pets in their yards, as well as around children’s playgrounds and swimming pools. Vinyl coated wire fencing can also be used to make animal and lobster traps or decorative panel inserts in deck railings.

Poly Wire

Where visibility is needed, poly wire is used to make the electrified fencing. The conductive wire is used to electrify brightly colored fiber strands. Poly wire is non-rusting and is a great choice for the confinement of valuable livestock like horses. There is less chance of severe injury or wounds if an animal panics and gets entangled in the poly wire.

Powder coat is a thick, powdered paint used often to coat steel wire fencing. The powder coat protects wire fencing from moisture and corrosion.

Sometimes, e-coating (or electroplating) is layered underneath a powder coating to strengthen wire fencing against corrosion. It is necessary to dip the wire into paint and then charge it with electricity.

This chemical reaction helps to strengthen the coating.

You can purchase all the wire fencing types we have discussed at online retailers or at your local farm supply store. Certain types of fencing require professional installation by a local fencing contractor. There are many options available, whether you want to install a fence around your homestead or decorative fencing in your backyard. You can also use fencing to contain your pets or livestock.
